The name ANDEMCA comes from the phrase, “Admit Nothing, Deny Everything, Make a Counter-Accusation,” a term commonly associated with interview and interrogation training. I first heard the acronym during an after-action discussion—often referred to as a hot wash—while training military and government personnel in surveillance detection. One of the professionals participating in the training shared the expression, and it stayed with me long after the assignment ended. 

The phrase reflects a reality investigators frequently encounter: people may deny what occurred, redirect attention, or challenge the information being presented. Effective investigations therefore depend on disciplined observation, accurate documentation, and objective evidence rather than assumptions or unsupported conclusions.

Once you recognize the strategy, you begin to see it used all around you: 

• Deny the issue
• Redirect attention
• Place the other person on the defensive. 

The real challenge is recognizing when the strategy is being used against you and remaining focused on the facts.
